How I went from mindless to mindful
Before discovering mindfulness, I was a full-time primary teacher, juggling family life and work. I would often arrive home feeling stressed, exhausted and with little energy to do anything else. I loved my job but felt that I needed a change of direction and a chance to reconnect with myself. So, when my youngest daughter left school and headed for university, I decided that would be a perfect moment.
Two days before I left, I spotted an 8-week Mindfulness stress reduction course in Barcelona. Wondering if this could perhaps help me to de-stress and help me reconnect with myself, I signed up. I was uncertain at first, wondering if it was worth spending the money on a course when I could just read a few books on the subject. However, after a free preliminary workshop and personal consultation with the teacher, I realised that having proper structure, guidance and support, as well as having to commit to something that I had paid for, would help me keep on track.
By the end of the 8-weeks, I felt calmer and more connected to my thoughts, emotions and body. I had also had enough time to incorporate mindful habits and meditation into my week.
Mindfulness is now a part of my life. It has helped me through difficult moments such as family illness and keeps me grounded when the going gets tough. It enables me to appreciate life as it unfolds and stops me getting carried away by anxious thoughts.
So, I’d like to share this knowledge with you – to help you to reduce and manage your stress and lead a more balanced life.
